Lose Your Illusion, a Guns N' Roses tribute band, brought the old school GNR experience to the stage at The Concert Lounge in Riverside, Ca on March 2.
Lose Your Illusion includes Shawn Perry (lead vocals), impersonating Axl Rose, Mano Moreno (lead guitar), impersonating the iconic guitarist Slash, Aaron Samson (bass), impersonating Duff McKagan, Nick Rozz (guitar), impersonating Richard Fortus, and Jeff McCune (drums), impersonating Frank Ferrer.
As a Tribute band, they brought the look and feel of an mid-90's GNR concert, especially with the energy Perry brought to the vocals, and Moreno's effective Slash hairstyle and style of looking down with his hair in his face most of the time. They play all your favorite GNR tunes, including some that only die hard fans will recognize, but limit their stage presence to mid 80's - late 90's GNR. "That's why you don't see me up here in biker shorts." Perry quipped between songs.
Perry's intense performance brought all the energy you would expect from Axl Rose, and did a great job of hitting some of the harder notes that epitomize a GNR song.
Moreno, in true Slash style, donned a top hat and signature long hyper curly hair, and played some impressive riffs on his Gibson Les Paul, mimicking many of the moves we have come to know and love from Slash. Unfortunately, they didn't have a grand piano on stage for their performance of November Rain to have Slash climb up on top of.
The band's name, Lose Your Illusion, is a reference to the GNR album entitled Use Your Illusion, and it's a great riff on the tribute band style of creating the illusion of watching your favorite band play their tunes. Lose Your Illusion does a great job of creating that experience, and if long for a times past of a hardcore GNR concert, you won't be disappointed with their performance.
During their rendition of Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Perry encouraged the crowd to sing along, since literally everyone knows the lyrics to that song, and the crowd didn't disappoint, each time the lights came up and he threw the mic out towards the crowd every belted out the verse on cue.
The Concert Lounge, owned by Gary Romano, brings in quality tribute bands to cover bands from the 80's and 90's and is overall just a fantastic space to enjoy a trip down memory lane with your favorite bands, and even Romano will be seen often living his best 90's fantasies, moving through the crowd and being an excited concert attendee.
