The line wrapped down the street and around the corner as fans eagerly waited for KikuoLand-Go-Round to begin. Fans came dressed in a style matching Kukuo’s iconic look complete with rainbow hair and horns! There were also a lot of people showing support for Hatsune Miku, a Vocaloid artist from the same music scene as Kikuo, by wearing outfits inspired by her!
The venue was packed with fans from all around southern California with a lot of them buying Kikuo-themed glow sticks from the merch stand that blended with the lighting within the venue. Every couple of minutes everybody in the crowd would chant “Kikuo! Kikuo! Kikuo! Kikuo!” in anticipation of his performance!
Suddenly the fog machines went off and the crowd erupted in excitement as Kikuo himself ran up on stage and stood with his arms spread, ready to start the night. Kikuo was ready to begin the set and he played the first second of his song “Cotton Candy” and everybody in the crowd knew exactly which song it was and yelled with excitement and sang along to all of the lyrics.
Kikuo is a Japanese producer and Vocaloid artist. Vocaloid is a genre of music that utilizes AI to create a voice that sings instead of an actual singer and has been around since 2004 and is most popular in Japan! Since there is no singer to sing on stage, Kikuo, the producer and writer of all these songs mixes all the songs together and DJ’s throughout the night.
As the night went on the fans got more and more excited until it was the end of the night and all the lights went out. Kikou thanked everybody for coming to the show, but before he could leave the crowd once again chanted “Kikuo! Kikuo! Kikuo! Kikuo!” and he proceeded to end the night off with two of his most popular songs “Aishite Aishite Aishite” and “My Time OMORI featuring Hatsune Miku” and gave the crowd the crazy send off they wanted!
