SHOUT! Has returned to Back To The Grind for its second ever show. SHOUT! is a monthly charity show hosted by local Riverside queen, Frida Diablo and it features plenty of other local drag queens and performers. Every show each month focuses on a different charity event with their goal of uplifting the local LGBTQ+ community and creating a safe space for people to showcase and express themselves regardless of their gender, sexuality, or race with 100% of all the proceeds going right to the charity of the month!
This month’s theme was Oddities with the lineup of performers included Chaos V, Sagittaria, Oddeng Lee, Ivy Profen, Luna Lockhart, Theory, Vanya Von Doom, Dorian Fox, Sacred Sapphire, Cherry Superstar, Miss Bee Hiven, Reina, Nikki, and Thai Teaze
Before the show started, The co-host of the night, DJ Natasha Backwards, got everybody ready for the queens by playing hits throughout their set, ranging from club classics to modern day pop songs that had audience members getting up from their seats and dancing throughout the venue!
The Show was to begin with the hostess Frida Diablo emerging from the curtains and doing an opening drag number before taking the microphone and announcing that the night was beginning!
First up to perform was Chaos V, who had an outfit inspired by a moth complete with a cape resembling wings and antennas. The crowd was very intrigued, cheering the whole time, but then the song changed with “Guess” by Charli XCX & Billie Eilish playing instead and the crowd erupted in cheer, making this performance an excellent kick off for the rest of the performers!
Dorian Fox grabbed the microphone to sing for the halftime break of the show. They showed very impressive vocals and had audience members mesmerized as they performed different songs including a cover of Radio Head’s “Creep” and more! It was a nice change of pace from the high energy performances throughout the night and it was really nice to see another talent from the community being showcased at SHOUT!
Vanya Von Doom walked out onto the stage in a draping cover and a mask until they took it off and started their performance with their outfit being inspired by Greek drama with a hint of glam and edge from their own drag style. They performed this piece to the song “Gods & Monsters” by Lana Del Rey which tied the whole performance together making it a really detailed set with a lot of thought put into it!
Thai Teaze ended the night in a drag outfit based off of the character Frieza from the Anime Dragon Ball. Everybody recognized the outfit and paired it with some funny audio bits from the anime being played throughout the set, it led to a very funny performance and the detail in the outfit can not go unnoticed as it was extremely well made.
Overall the goals of the show were fulfilled and it provided a safe space for all these community members to perform in a safe space and over $400 was raised for the Oasis Center which provides housing, and mental health support for LGBTQ youth in Tennessee. SHOUT! Will be returning to Back To The Grind on September 21st and will have a latine drag theme and an audience lip sync competition! Tickets for the next SHOUT! show can be purchased here
