Full Circle Players brings a disturbing intensity to William Shakespeare’s “Titus Andronicus,” with a cast that makes the cruelty of its revenge story painfully human. Watching Titus and his family suffer, retaliate and descend further into violence is an unsettling experience, made all the more powerful by the conviction of the performances. It is a brutal evening of theater, and this company gives you every reason to stay with it.

The experience begins in the lobby, where the cast mingles with theatergoers as Saturninus and Bassianus compete for their support. Audience members accept red or blue poker chips to declare their allegiance, then enter through opposite sides of the theater to sit among fellow supporters. Before the audience has even settled into its seats, the production has made its members citizens of a divided Rome. It is an engaging introduction to the political conflict that will soon give way to something considerably darker.

The story follows Titus, a Roman general returning from war with Tamora, queen of the Goths, and her sons as prisoners. His decision to sacrifice one of those sons, despite her pleas, helps set a devastating cycle of revenge in motion. When Tamora becomes empress, the balance of power shifts, leaving Titus and his family vulnerable to retaliation. Honor and loyalty become entangled with pride and cruelty as both families find reasons to justify their next terrible act.

Pierre van der Westhuizen gives Titus’ transformation from celebrated general to a man consumed by revenge a convincing progression. As the losses accumulate, he brings the audience through the grief that steadily breaks Titus down, culminating in a final loss that sends him into laughter. It is a deeply unsettling breaking point, and van der Westhuizen carries that fractured mental state through the planning and execution of Titus’ revenge. His performance connects the grieving father to the man capable of serving up that horrifying final meal, making the full journey believable even at its most grotesque.

Rain Aurora Reaza delivers the production’s most devastating performance as Lavinia, Titus’ daughter. Her portrayal during the rape and mutilation sequence is hard to watch but impossible to turn away from. Reaza makes Lavinia’s suffering painfully immediate, giving the scene an emotional force that stays with you after it ends. It is a demanding role, and her performance is central to how deeply the production’s violence registers.

As Tamora’s sons, Demetrius and Chiron, Jacob Ayala and Rachelle Claire portray the brothers as both menacing and mentally damaged. The two play with one another throughout the production, sometimes as part of the main action and sometimes in the background, but that playfulness always carries a threatening edge. Even when the focus is elsewhere, they maintain an unsettling presence. Ayala’s cackle during some of the most disturbing moments is particularly chilling, intensifying the horror through his character’s unmistakable delight in what is happening.

Around them, Rebecca Reber as Tamora, Craig Cleveland as Aaron and Alejandro Lopez as Saturninus help bring the dangerous collision of personal revenge and Roman power to life. Together, they give the central family conflict a wider world in which to unfold, where private grievances carry consequences for everyone caught within reach. Their contributions help sustain the atmosphere of cruelty and instability that allows the main characters’ journeys to become so devastating.

Supporting the Andronicus side of the story are Sej Patel as Marcus, Aaron Gomez as Lucius, Romeo Samwise Maybrier as Mutius and Tyler St Jean as Martius, alongside Julian Carrasco as Bassianus, Lavinia’s betrothed. Noah Delano bridges the opposing families in the roles of Quintus and Alarbus. This ensemble gives substance to the family ties and divided loyalties that revenge tears apart, providing strong support for Titus and Lavinia’s emotional journeys. Their work helps make the destruction feel like it reaches through an entire family and into Rome itself.

The strength of the company gives the production an impact beyond the shock of its most notorious scenes. Even as the acts of revenge grow more grotesque, the performances keep the grief, cruelty and desperation behind them present. The result is a production that holds your attention through moments when watching becomes genuinely difficult.

Full Circle Players delivers a powerful production of a deeply disturbing play. Audiences should be prepared for sexual violence, mutilation, murder and cannibalism, all central to the story.
