The Scream Team Tour stopped at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium on December 13, bringing out a packed crowd of loyal fans ready for a stacked night of post hardcore. The lineup of Story of the Year, Senses Fail, and Armor for Sleep drew fans of all ages, from people who grew up with these bands to younger fans seeing them live for the first time. Plenty of people in the room had already caught this tour before and came back for another show, which said a lot before the night even got started.
Armor for Sleep opened the show and were met with a warm welcome from the crowd. Their set leaned heavily into fan favorites from What To Do When You Are Dead, and the room quickly filled with people singing along. It was a strong start and a reminder of how much those songs still connect with longtime listeners.
Senses Fail took the stage next and immediately set the tone with a fun entrance, rolling out on scooters to loud cheers. Buddy Nielsen brought nonstop energy from the jump and kept it up through the entire set. The band mixed in some deeper cuts that do not always make it into their live shows, which longtime fans clearly appreciated. One of the standout moments came when the band took time to shout out an audience member who had just hit their 100th Senses Fail show, turning the moment into a celebration the whole venue got behind.
Story of the Year closed out the night to one of the loudest reactions of the evening. The crowd was more than ready, and the band delivered from start to finish. Partway through their set, members of Senses Fail came back on stage to mess with them, adding a lighthearted moment that fit the spirit of the tour. It was a strong finish to a night that never really let up.
With a lineup this stacked and a crowd that showed up ready, the Scream Team Tour stop in Riverside felt like a win for fans of post hardcore, both old and new.
