The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus were making a stop at The Glass House in Pomona for a very special performance on December 5th with support from The Rocky Valentines, GARZI, and all of the 2000’s alternative emo kids, now grown, reemerging to relive their emo glory days with this night of fresh and nostalgic energy.
The night started off with The Rocky Valentines taking over the stage. Their gimmick is that they do not have a front man or lead singer and instead, they had a mannequin dressed up on stage behind a microphone throughout their entire performance and the audience loved every second of it!
Next up was GARZI, bringing a very energetic performance to the stage and it was the set I was most excited for in the night. It was awesome being able to hear one of his older songs like “Demonstrate” being performed with a full band performing the instrumental, instead of the trap beat it was originally on. He kept the energy up for the entire set, playing some of his newest songs “Say It” and one of my favorites “Much Better”.
The Dark, the penultimate band, came up on stage for their set next. They turned off all the lights which had the atmosphere really fit the darker alternative vibes they gave off from their music. They captivated the entire crowd with their audience and were just amazing to watch. Their guitarist Alan Ashby was wearing a spike-studded mask for the entire set which really added to the overall performance.
It was time for The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus to start their set and the crowd was having it! Whistles and chants were heard around the entire venue and then all the band members came out to start playing their instruments, with Ronnie Winter, the lead singer running out after, kicking off the night with their song “In Fate’s Hand”
Ronnie, made an announcement about why tonight’s performance was special, but before he could finish, audience members were already wishing him a happy birthday as it was his 32nd birthday that night and shortly after that he was joined by his wife and son who came on stage with a birthday cake and his son lead the entire audience in singing happy birthday.
Ronnie, talked about how he just moved to California to a neighboring city and joked about how half of the crowd is other parents whose kids are friends with his kid so he asked who in the crowd was here because they listened to their music in high school, to which everyone cheered, then said they were going to play a song that they listened to in high school, and played a cover of Blink-182’s “All The Small Things” and then ended the night with their own biggest hit “Face Down”.
