Jesus Aguaje Ramos and his Buena Vista Orchestra took the stage at the Fox Performing Arts Center regaling the packed house with a night of amazing music with guest performers, and original members of the Buena Vista Social Club in Riverside, Ca on Oct 12.
Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos is a Cuban trombonist, composer, arranger and musical director. He is best known as the original orchestra leader, composer and trombonist of The Buena Vista Social Club. Formed in 1996, the BVSC showcased the popular styles of the time, such as son, bolero and danzón, with dozens of veteran musicians, some of whom had been retired for many years. He "brought the band back together" for a tour showcasing some original members of the band such as Emilio Senon Morales Ruiz on piano, Fabian Garcia on bass and Luis “Betun” Mariano Valiente Marin on percussion with congas and bongo.
Other guests included Geidy Chapman, who gives homage to Celia Cruz, interpreting hits from the late, great singer’s repertory and Rogelio Ricardo Oliva Orelly, who acted as emcee and provided vocals as well.
The Buena Vista Orchestra, under the direction of Ramos and featuring key players from throughout the history of The Buena Vista Social Club, continues the legacy of the legendary group in 2024 with an exciting new stage production and repertoire pulled from the greatest hits (many of which Ramos composed). This new incarnation of the BVSC has been well received from older fans and new fans alike, and both filled out the Fox Performing Arts Center to enjoy a night of new mixes, and old favorites.
