Riverside natives, Alien Ant Farm, kicked off their latest tour with a "Freeway Series" performing at Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles and the Parish Room in the House of Blues in Anaheim on August 29. Supporting them were AntennaTheEnd and Atomic Life. All three bands put on a great show to a packed room.
For those who are not baseball fans, or not in the Los Angeles, Orange County area, a "Freeway Series" is the term used with the Los Angeles Dodgers play the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, as they are in rival counties and both stadiums are right off the 5 Freeway. Alien Ant Farm chose the term as they played different sets at both venues and encouraged fans to attend both concerts.
AAF will be touring through out the West Coast until the end of October when they head off to Europe and then Australia and New Zealand to promote their new album ~mAntras~. Supporting them were two amazing bands, AntennaTheEnd and Atomic Life.
First up for the night was Antenna The End, a Los Angeles based rock band, featuring bassist and vocalist, David Hakopyan, whose deep rifts from the bass, and a voice that pulls you into the message of the music, made me an instant fan, with songs like "Blah, Blah Blah" that resist the disinformation of society, and "AnmL" that talks about human nature as a whole.
Next up were Atomic Life, native to the East Coast with strong roots in the New York hard core scene, and what a show did they put on. Lead vocalist Adea Frances engaged with the audience from the first note, and never stopped until the last. At one point Frances dropped off the stage into the photo pit to climb up and sing directly to fans in the audience, creating an intimate moment for everyone at the show. With fan favorites like "Incense & Aries" and "All in Bad Taste" mixing it up with new tracks like "Strippers Anonymous," Atomic Life put on a great show and got the fans fired up for Alien Ant Farm.
Alien Ant Farm brought the energy and fun that fans have come to expect from them in their decades long career, and it was great to see them back on the stage and performing after a long hiatus.
Starting the set off with some old favorites like "Courage", "Flesh and Bone", and "Wish" they broke into the opening track of their new album with "The Wrong Things" of course finished off the night with "Smooth Criminal".
Despite the long hiatus from performing live together, Alien Ant Farm still showed great chemistry and brought the packed to capacity room to life, and it was just so much fun watching the boys back at it.
The Parish Room is a separate venue attached to the House of Blues that provides state of the art lighting and sound, and provides a 400 person capacity space for intimate and private shows.
