On Friday, March 21, the Observatory OC in Santa Ana, California, pulsated with the electrifying energy of metalcore as Make Them Suffer headlined a dynamic concert. The evening featured robust performances from supporting acts Like Moths to Flames, Aviana, and Windwaker, each bringing their unique sound to an enthusiastic crowd.

Windwaker opened the night with a high-octane set that showcased their evolution since forming in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, in late 2014. Named after the popular Legend of Zelda game, the band relocated to Melbourne in 2015 and quickly made a name for themselves with their debut single, "The Charade." Their early work culminated in the 2017 EP Fade, followed by the 2019 release Empire, which solidified their place in the metalcore scene. In 2022, Windwaker released their debut studio album, Love Language, under Fearless Records. Despite lineup changes, including the departure of founding vocalist Will King in 2022, the band has maintained their momentum. Their performance at the Observatory OC highlighted tracks from their latest album, Hyperviolence (2024), delivering a set that was both intense and melodic.

Next to take the stage was Aviana, a Swedish metalcore band known for their atmospheric soundscapes and aggressive riffs. Formed in 2016, Aviana quickly gained attention with their debut album, Polarize. After a brief hiatus and lineup changes, the band returned with renewed vigor, releasing Epicenter in 2019. Their performance at the Observatory OC was a testament to their resilience and evolution, captivating the audience with a blend of old favorites and new material.

Like Moths to Flames, hailing from Columbus, Ohio, brought their signature blend of metalcore and post-hardcore to the stage. Since their formation in 2010, the band has been a consistent force in the scene, known for their relentless touring and a discography that includes standout albums like When We Don't Exist (2011) and An Eye for an Eye (2013). Their latest release, No Eternity in Gold (2020), showcases a matured sound that still retains the raw energy fans have come to expect. Their set at the Observatory OC was a powerful display of their evolution, engaging both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

The night's headliner, Make Them Suffer, delivered a performance that was both haunting and exhilarating. Formed in Perth, Australia, in 2008, the band has continually pushed the boundaries of metalcore by incorporating symphonic elements into their music. Their discography includes notable albums such as Neverbloom (2012) and Old Souls (2015). Their latest album, How to Survive a Funeral (2020), has been lauded for its emotional depth and musical complexity. At the Observatory OC, they performed a set that spanned their diverse catalog, leaving the audience in awe of their dynamic range and stage presence.
